Packing 101

I took these pictures as I was packing for our last big trip from Cali to East Coast before we moved.  I have been traveling for work and life so much in the last ten years that I feel like I have mastered the art of packing (not to brag - it has taken many overweight suitcases, makeup tossed in airport trash and missed flights to perfect!) After I figured out how to pack our little family of three (often four because who doesn't travel with their dog?) I thought I would share some of my tips and tricks with you.  Here goes the packing tutorial...

Step 1
Layer bottom of suitcase with shoes. You can took undies, socks, etc. into their nooks and crannies later.

 Step 2
ROLL YOUR CLOTHING! Less wrinkles, more space!

Fold

Fold again

Roll, roll, roll!

Voila!

 Step 3
Layer all of your rolled clothing in. Took it sideways and up and down to maximize space.

Step 4
I like to leave an open space for hair dryers, straighteners, etc. This way they can be covered and protected by clothes.  We all know how TSA loves to jostle stuff around...

Step 5
Cover the hair tools with clothes!

Step 6
Makeup, accessory bags on top! I try to use soft sided bags as much as possible for the smushability factor. (Not Jersey Shore smush - get your head out of the gutter!)

Step 7
Make up love. Trish McEvoy makes "planners" for your makeup.  I have a smaller, travel size one that holds mini makeup brushes and pages of all the makeup I need! You should invest in one of these! I can't rave enough about them! Plus, her makeup and perfumes are fabulous!

Step 8

I'm crazy anal and separate my jewelry by size of pieces. Large in one bag, smaller ones in smaller bags inside a smaller bag. Don't judge, I'm OCD. You don't need to go this far!

I hope that helps :)
