Thursday Randoms

It's time for my Thursday brain dump... Josh gave me these slippers for Christmas.  They are SO comfy and I wear them all the time when we are home in hopes (yeah right) of keeping our floors cleaner.  They are on sale for only $9.99 now!

This of course led me to browsing through the Restoration Hardware baby and kids section.  They have so much adorable stuff! I have never thought to look there for decor for the kids' rooms!

Speaking of cute kid's things, I am currently obsessed with Kicky Pants pajamas.  I need to stock on some more of these awesome jammies for Greyson.  They have a little tush flap so you can do diaper checks and the material is so soft!

I know I am a little late on this, but here are my favorite looks from the SAG Awards this past Sunday.
I think Marion Cotillard's gown is my favorite.  Navy is definitely my second favorite color after, duh, pink.

Finally, have you heard of Vine?  It is my new favorite app.  I'm addicted!
Now you can see my little goof balls in action! Ha!

Is that enough randomness for you?  TGIalmosF!

Healthy Eats

In the last few years I have been conscious of what I eat and what I put in my body.  This year, along with my goal to lose the baby weight and be in my best shape, I also want to be as healthy as possible.  I finally started getting back to having an annual physical to stay on top of things and found out that my cholesterol is a little high.  This was a blessing and a curse because what 29 (ahem) year old has elevated cholesterol and it also has made me change my eating habits.  I LOVE cheese.  Hands down the best thing ever, but I have cut back on all dairy majorly.  No more cream or milk or cheddar except for every now and then.  I am still using a little bit of feta and parm but that is the extent of my dairy on a daily basis.  I also am trying to avoid sugar, processed foods, and bad carbohydrates.  So in the last few weeks my eating habits have definitely changed.  Here are some of my new favorite meals and snacks...

{ Mashed Cauliflower }
We have been replacing mashed potatoes with this and it is deeelish!

{ Ezekial bread & avocado }
I toast this sprout bread and mash an avocado on it then finish with a sprinkle of sea salt.  Awesome snack!

{ Multi grain oats }
I make this with water then add in a splash of soy vanilla creamer, a packet of Truvia, cinnamon and whatever fresh fruit we have. Awesome and filling breakfast.

{ Green smoothie }

{ Peanut butter protein shake }

{ Corn and white bean salad }

I'm going to post some of the recipes for these soon!  Fruits and veggies and now the basis of my diet along with healthy proteins.  I am feeling fuller and enjoying all my meals!

Organization: January Update

Remember my post on how I was going to organize our house?  I'm trying to stick to it! Yeah, yeah I know it's still January, how long can it really last... However, thank you to my awesome husband (but I can go ahead and take the credit right?) the work in the bathroom is DONE.  I just need to tweak it/finish organizing/finish decorating.  Here is some of the progress...

Now, for the only before picture I have.  I thought I had taken more when we were moving in, but this is all I had.  It hurt to take more.
It pains me to look at this.

I love, love, love the wall color (I'll get back to you on the color) and the bead board.  I have been swooning over the floor, especially compared to the dirty beast that lay there previously.  I'm also so unbelievably glad to be rid of the formica hideousness that was the previous vanity and don't even get me started on that wall paper.  The previous home owner was of a different generation and taste.

We have been continuing to work daily to meet our January 31st deadline and I am so giddy every time I walk in and think that we did this all ourselves... ok, mostly Josh, but you get my drift ;)

Weekend in Review

Happy Monday friends!  Did you all have a fabulous weekend?  We had a busy and good weekend - minus one sleepless night.  Friday night we celebrated my bestie's birthday with a delicious meal and some tasty cocktails.
I work a Trouve tunic with my Sam Edelman booties and my new Fornash necklace.  Josh calls it my leopard necklace (it's tortoise) but I love it.

This guy kept me up all.night.long. on Friday night.  He literally was up at 1:30 am and didn't go back to sleep.  How do you get children to sleep!? We are struggling with these two.  I don't think everyone in this house has all slept through the night... ever?

It cracks me up what the kids will play with when we are at my parents' house.  They find the most random things to amuse themselves with.  Case in point, an ancient recorder, some trash and a cat toy, which made it's way home with us.

Avery is at the age where she is starting to really grasp concepts.  Case in point, maps, and making telescopes out of menus.

She got some headphones for her iPad so she could listen to all of her country tunes and Mumford and Sons on repeat without disturbing the peace.  Plus, she looks so adorable with them on.

Little Miss Thang had a birthday party to go to on Sunday evening.  The kids were all busting a move to Gangnam Style and I wish I had better pictures/video.  So hilarious to watch a group of four years try to do the dance.

It was a wonderful weekend spent with friends! Now I'm off to catch up on Scandal and try my hand at meal planning!

Jan 25, 2013

I'm so happy this week is OVAH.  We have a busy weekend coming up and hopefully the kids will stop being such grumps/get over the winter duldrums.  It is my bestie's birthday and I can't wait to celebrate her!  This one is for you Mere!
I have been wearing so many layers, sweaters, and scarves this week.  My Uggs have also taken quite a beating thanks to this frigid weather.
AG jeans, maternity tank, Old Navy shirt, Missoni scarf.

Target jeans, Edelman shoes, random tank, AG sweater (I apparently really love AG?)

I'm also going to try to get better at meal planning for the week so that I don't have to make lots of rushed grocery trips and quit pizza!  I'm thinking of trying my hand at sweet and sour chicken...

I cleaned out our hallway closet and can't wait to fill it with office overflow. Love. Extra. Closets.

I love, love, LOVE this Pinterest living room find.  The colors are pure perfection and they need to work their way into out house somewhere... maybe the living room?  I need to find prints and frames just like those!

Let me leave you with this little gem which sums up a rough week...

Cheers to the weekend!

Thursday Thoughts

Oh Thursday, thank goodness you are here.  The kiddos have been super grumpy this week - I blame the cold - and we have a busy weekend so they will be nice and occupied, and hopefully happier!  On that note, I am full of randomness today...

I finally got a manicure! It has been so long it worries me, especially since my hands have been seen in public and the manicurist looked offended when she saw them.  I got a Shellac color that I couldn't fin the name of.  It is the perfect red!
New goal: maintain this...

Speaking of cold... it was 11 degrees at 9 am today.  I miss California. So. Much.

Here are my little grumps.  They have been better at playing together, although Avery is still learning how not to be too rough with Greyson.  Poor kids, they just want to play outside!
 P.S.  The iGuy, which you can kind of see above, is one of the best purchases we have ever made.

I am thinking of getting a new watch with a strap.  I used to wear a Michele one after college until the strap wore out.  I want a really big, brown or tan one with gold.  These are the best I have found.  I love the look of the Marc Jacobs one, however, the chances I would be able to tell time on it are very slim.

Finally, two awesome pink dresses from the Golden Globes after parties.  I love them both!

This cold weather must be getting to me because I am thinking Nikki Reed's hair color is amazing and doable for me right now...

Eek! Time to plan a warm weather trip!

Recipe: Roasted Green Beans

One thing I am always searching for are good, healthy vegetable side dishes for dinner.  Leave it to Pinterest to solve that problem!

I found this delicious roasted green bean recipe from there via Skinnytaste and adapted it a little for our needs.

Green beans, trimmed
Olive oil
Salt & Pepper
Parmesan cheese (I used both grated and shredded)
Garlic powder

- Preheat oven to 425
- Line baking sheet with tinfoil (for easy clean up)
- Spread green beans on baking sheet
- Cover lightly with olive oil (I use a few teaspoons)
- Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste
- Bake for 20 minutes
- Sprinkle with grated cheese and a pinch of shredded parm (I used a lot more than the original, because it is CHEESE!)

We ate ours with some baked salmon and mashed cauliflower.  I think this recipe will be in heavy rotation here!

Before and After: Faux Mudroom

Do you know what I love to see when I read blogs and watch HGTV? {like I do anything else with my time...} Before and after shots.  I love seeing what people are able to transform.  I finally uploaded my pictures from the day we started moving into our house and it blew my mind looking at how far we have come in a couple of rooms.  Yes, a couple.  Cue Debbie Downer noise.  This is our year to finish it all!  Anyway, I thought I would share the before and after pictures from our Faux Mudroom Project that we did a couple of months back.

So boring and inefficient for our needs.  The hallway was way too small to add a table aka dumping ground for all of the little things you need to put down when you come in the door.

And to refresh your memory...

Happy dance.  I love a good before and after shot.  You can see our kitchen before and after's here.  I'm going to keep working on the bathroom so I can have one of those to show you at the end of the month!  Share any of yours with me!

How amazing was the FLOTUS' dress at the Inaugural Ball last night? Jason Wu can do no wrong!
And that hair... gorgeous!
