Workout Wednesday

I was thinking about adding a bigger focus on health and fitness to my blog.  It is something that is part of my daily life and that interests me.  I have spent the last year (ok, four) trying to get back to pre-baby shape and get as healthy as I can.  I am by NO means an expert in either health or fitness, but I am a normal, real person, who loves hearing what works for other normal/real people.  One of my resolutions for 2013 was to finish losing the baby weight and to get in the best shape I can be.  I have always loved to work out.  I'm a cardio junkie and a big fan of yoga.  I want to up my yoga practice and learn to love other workouts.  Cardio doesn't do the same thing for me these days as it did ten years ago.  Boo aging.

- I love running.  I used to hate, hate, hate it and started out small and increased my time and distance each week.  Now, I can't get enough of it.

- I hate gym weight machines.  Free weights are my jam.  I prefer to buy my own (Target has awesome ones at great prices) and work out at home.  But every few weeks I will try the machines at the gym then get super self conscious that the beef cakes are judging me.

- I have a binder full of workouts I have printed out from Pinterest and torn out of magazines like Shape and Self.  I like to pick a few to do sometimes to keep things fresh and different and challenging and have found a lot of my favorite workouts this way.  Clearly, the binder was pre-Pinterest.

- I try to remind myself to drink water every five minutes when I am doing cardio.  It helps the time go by faster and keeps me hydrated.

- I love the elliptical and the treadmill. I am such a cardio junkie and have to try hard to quit that habit.

And yes, I wear my workout gear most of the day.  These are newish Lululemon.  I adore Lululemon.  And these slippers because I'm classy like that.

Leave me comments and let me know what you think! What works for you?  Do you think I should focus on this more frequently?

  1. I too hate, hate, hate running. And no matter how hard I try I just can't seem to do it. The 5K I ran in December was just plain painful. I do love a circuit type class though. I'm intimidated by the machines, I need to schedule a personal training session to learn about them.

    1. You did a 5k though, that is HUGE and awesome! What circuit class do you do? I don't know why those machines are so intimidating, I see senior citizens doing them while I am hiding from them!

  2. I LOVE running but haven't been able to do it since I've been pregnant so I've been trying to walk 1-2 miles a day. Pre-pregnancy I was huge runner and weight lifter- I am big into free weights and I LOVE using them at my gym. To be honest I LOVE that I'm usually the only girl over there, it doesn't bother me at all, half those meatheads are so into themselves anyway they don't even notice you

    1. That's awesome that you're walking lots! I did that with my first pregnancy and I swear it made my delivery a breeze and my recovery absurdly fast. I am trying to get more into free weights, I am just such a wuss at the gym! I love the meatheads comment, and it is totally true. They're checking themselves in the mirror the whole time anyway!

    1. I LOVE the crops for summer or when I do a ton of cardio (I get so warm!) They're basically my daily uniform. The run free crops and wunder unders are my faves! Cardio junkies for life! ;)

  4. After losing 100lbs with two kids, my fitness routine is so crucial to me. I get up everyday at 2:40 and at the gym by 3 and work out for just about 2 hours - 100% cardio (elliptical, running, spin bikes). I do not enjoy weights although I will use them occasionally (not as much as I should).

Also...Lululemon was for Christmas this year. I've wanted to try it for years and we lived near a store for 4 years. After hitting my goals, new workout clothes was what I wanted to reward myself w/ (not food). I love the Groove pants and the spin in to win it shirts...also the cool racerback.
