Workout Wednesday

Happy hump day everyone!  All of this warm weather has kept us outside and moving around ten times more than usual with walks, trips to the park and extra long doggy walks.  I kinda get why everyone is skinnier in the summer now.  Today, I am going to get extra personal, something I don't always do.  I'm going to unload my "weight story" on you just because I feel like if I write it out then I will work harder on it.  And you can all hold me accountable... right?  Before I had kids my weight wasn't something I struggled with except for freshman year of college (I think that's a universal time though.)  I worked out, doing cardio and sit ups for years, and I ate and drank whatever I want.  It was fantastic.  Those, my friends, were the glory days.
  And then I got pregnant.  I was able to keep it together until about six months into my first pregnancy and then I just lost it.  I don't really know how, but my body just exploded.  I worked out almost daily including the night before I went into labor.  I thought by constant working out and being fairly young to have a baby I would bounce right back and 55 pounds would fall off because according to Us Weekly that is what happens... right?  False.  After some over priced trainers, failed diet attempts and hours in the gym I gave up.  A little more than a year and a half after Avery was born I finally started losing weight and made it back to five pounds away from my pre-baby weight.  I don't know what happened but my body just clicked and things started working the way I wanted.  I guess I'm a two year turn around?

  And then I started gaining weight and I had no idea why.  Turns out Greyson was on his way and I can thank him for that.  Surprise pregnancy number two tacked on a lovely 65 pounds.  I gave up working out around six months because I just couldn't handle it.  Everything hurt for a solid nine months.  

Fun fact: breast feeding was not a magic diet for me.  I didn't really lose any of the baby weight beyond 15 pounds until I stopped breast feeding.  Talk about bad luck!  So there is my struggle.  Trying to lose 50 pounds of baby weight in my magical hopes of returning to a pre-baby body.  It is brutal #1 because I don't have hours to work out anymore and #2 I really like food.  So someone please find a way to make food gross and me not hungry and the weight melt away and let me know asap please!  

p.s. Since I got the FitBit I knocked off four more pounds!

  1. First of all you look great right now- from the pics I've seen on your blog! I also LOVE food- I have found the only thing that works for me is counting calories and working out when I want to lose weight. Instead of "dieting" (meaning only eating healthy and cutting out bad food) I just try to set an amount of calories I am allowed to consume each day and then ration my meals from there. That way I can try to include say a chocolate chip cookie or 2 glasses of wine if I'm feeling that I have to have dessert or a wine. If I don't allow myself to eat something bad then I will end up binging on it and totally ruining my eating plan. Counting calories sucks but it's the only thing that helps me and I also think it's eye opening to see which food is hogging all the calories in your diet. I use the Livestrong My Plate- I use the app or the website and love them both. It has most of the common foods stored in it. You can also add your workouts every day and it will deduct calories and then you can eat more :)
    I've been using it on and off through out pregnancy to try to track what I'm eating.

    1. Thanks girlie for saying that and sharing! I need to do more tracking and rationing. I do the same thing where I can go totally overboard and it is so hard not to! I cannot believe how good you are being while pregnant!! I wish I had done that big time! I am going to download My Plate tonight!!

  2. a) i love you and have always thought you were gorgeous and more stylish than i will ever be.. since we were 18. b) what works for me is eating healthy basically sunday-friday afternoon, then splurging friday night (pizza) and eating whatever i want on saturday before reigning it back in sunday morning (unless we go out to brunch and then all bets are off). it works for me bc i'm never more than a few days away from friday pizza which is my favorite thing in the world.

    1. I love you, love you, love you. That is what I need to work on doing. I think Saturday is a good cheat day and pizza is definitely worth in on Friday nights. Can't there be some magical calorie-free pizza and chocolate?

  3. First of all, you are a beautiful, stylish mommy! I read an inspirational quote the other day that has changed my mindset since: "Work out and eat healthy because you LOVE your body, not because you hate it."

    I like to keep in mind while grocery shopping that, "If I don't buy it, I can't eat it." Same goes at restaurants. I usually end up saving money by buying less or ordering less and end up eating much healthier. Another thing that works for me is reminding myself BEFORE I eat something bad how I feel AFTER I eat something bad. Feeling good (being healthy) has become more important to me than looking good (being fit) but the two usually end up going hand in hand.

    I like Brittany's suggestion- find a routine and healthy lifestyle that works for you that still includes treating yourself to moderate amounts of your favorite things! I think it's so much easier to stay healthy when you aren't constantly depriving yourself of what you like.
