Life: Quick Halloween Recap

Yesterday kicked my butt.  I mean, really.  It turned around and mule kicked it.  I am crashing from a sugar and Five Guys high and trying to get back on track after a week of sick kiddies, too much candy, and scrambling to get ready for so many things.  We had so much fun trick or treating last night.  Well, Avery had fun.  Greyson grumped a whole lot and I inhaled candy.

I love my little bugs and I am so happy we live in a place where they have friends to celebrate Halloween with!

Celebrate: Halloween Pins

Happy Halloween lovelies!  I seriously can't imagine doing such a child-centric holiday like this without Pinterest!  Not that I do half of the items I have pinned for Halloween, but really, REALLY, they are all on my to-do list.  Um, or they were.

All the better to save for next year... gives me lots of lead time!  Hope you all have a fun-filled, delicious cocktail sipping, sugar-high fueled Halloween!

p.s. A very happy birthday to my holiday-born husband!

Fashion: Fall Flats

I love summer and 75 percent of the reason why is because I can wear flip flops every where or some version of a comfortable sandal.  Comfort on my feet is key.  I would rather my shoes feel comfortable over any other article of clothing or body part.  Ever since I had children, these dogs are barking at the mere mention of a stiletto or narrow strap.  It's not pretty but I have to embrace it.  Thank goodness for fall and the delicious flats it lets me wear (once that is it hot/is it cold out confusion finally passes.)  Don't get me wrong, I would wear sneakers all day if I didn't think I looked totally ridiculous, but there are so many adorable and comfortable flats available that I can feel much more comfortable and put together without breaking the bank.  That's right ladies, none of these beauties are over $65!

I am loving all of the patterns, textures and fun colors that I don't want to spend a ton of money on... because I will probably hate them next year.  All I wear are flats.  See below for proof.

Happy shopping!

Beauty: At Home Gel Nails

I have toyed with the idea of trying out at home gel manicures for a while now, but the price tag always threw me off.  Why do I want to pay $60 or $70 for something I may hate and want to throw out a window?  I happened to be in CVS last weekend saw that the SensatioNail Starter Kit was on sale and I had some ExtraBucks (oh yeah!) on me, so I snatched that baby up and give it a whirl.  I have to say, I was more than pleasantly surprised.

This picture was after one day.  They ended up lasting me for eight days, which is my normal length of time for a salon gel mani.  I am someone who gets antsy when my nails get too long and I pick polish off.  Horrible habits.

This is the starter kit I got.  It came with a neutral pink shade and everything you need for several manicures, including the LED lamp.  Obviously, detailed and easy to understand instructions were included or I would not be writing this post.

There are tons of colors to choose from too! I have my eye on several already, starting with that deep blue on the bottom right.

I give this product a double (triple?!) thumbs up! I saved myself time and eventually money using this and it lasted me the same amount of time as a my usual salon manicure.  The polish is super durable and even easier than normal nail polish to apply.  This post has not been sponsored in any way, I just feel way too excited about this discovery! (which I am late on ha!)  The SensatioNail products are sold in so many retailers with various coupons available making this even more affordable.  Go get yourself some!

Life: Weekend Recap

Happy Monday! I spent the past weekend on a much needed girls' weekend in Cape Cod.  It was so nice to have some quality girl time and fit so many delicious activities into one weekend, although my pants will probably be much tighter this week.  I'm so thankful to my generous friend (with the gorgeous Cape house) for hosting everyone and filling our bellies with yummy goodies and our heads with fantastic memories!  I also highly recommend a blind wine tasting as a dinner party activity when you have a wine-loving crowd to amuse (especially after squeezing in a morning 5k!)

Sometimes a weekend with fantastic friends filled with yummy food and drinks is just what I need to recharge my batteries for a busy week of Halloween fun!

Life: Whatcha Reading?

I have always been an avid reader. I love reading books and magazines.  Unfortunately these days, any magazine that isn't Us Weekly ends up in a pile rarely being read (priorities! Celeb gossip always comes first!)  Actually, I read all of my Us Weekly's when I am doing cardio at the gym.  Anyone else one of the few workout readers?  Weird habit!  Phew I am all over the place here today! Anyway, back to the beginning.  I love reading and 99 percent of the time I read in bed before I go to sleep.  Let's be serious, when will I ever get a chance to sit down and read during the day time if I don't have a baby to nurse? (that is how I read the Hunger Games trilogy during Greyson's first month. TMI. Sorry!)  I don't think I have ever gone into a bookstore (Kindle store) and picked a book at random.  Every single book I have ever read has been based on a friend, acquaintance, or otherwise noted recommendation.  I also rarely read a book start to finish save for my teeny bopper favorites trilogies (Hunger Games and Twilight I'm looking at you!) and usually have a stack of currents to pick from on my nightstand.  Here is what is going on right now...

I adore this book.  I have read a lot of healthy/food/diet books but this one is really changing how I look at food and how our bodies operate based on it.  It makes me want to juice!

I just started this (it was a birthday gift!) and am very interested to see where it goes.  I am really interested in natural products and living a "cleaner" life.  I need all of the info/help I can get!

Because I love Tinsley (rip her reality show) and all things southern and girly.  I also like to shut my brain off for a bit sometimes... Did that even need an explanation?

I love LC.  This series is not the same as LA Candy, but I read because I am always team LC!

I just finished this book and it left me so mad when it was done.  I stayed up way too late to finish basically the entire second half one night.  So mad!

I love the Honest Company and I love JAlbs.  Some parts of this book have annoyed me (honest style? Really?) but it is overall pretty informative!

So that is what I am doing every night!  P.S. half of these are on my Kindle.  What did we do before Kindles?!  Happy reading!

Beauty: Fall Favorites

I feel like I change my beauty routine and products slightly with each season.  As I get older (boo!) I see a noticeable difference in my skin depending on the weather and the time of year.  With summer and it's moisturizing humidity behind us, forced air and dry temperatures have made both my skin and hair much drier.  I have had to adjust to accommodate these lovely little changes.

I love  Cetaphil cream from head to toe.  It is super thick, super versatile and I have yet to find anything as rich at a great price.  This milky Chantecaille Cleanser is gentle and moisturizing, both necessities.  Sometimes I like a few spritzes of  Bobbi Brown Beach to remind me of summer and the beach.  Who cares if you smell like summer in the fall? Not me!  Josie Maran's Argan Oil is a one stop hair product shop.  I use it on wet hair with no other products to detangle and tame.  I use it on dry hair to stop frizz.  A tiny bit goes a long way!  The lavender, tea tree oil and mint in Paul Mitchell Shampoo makes one moisturzing scalp soother! I love the smell too! I love a good hair mask, but hate how long they take.  The Fekkai Mask is short on time and big on moisture! I use it on my ends only, fyi!  Amore Pacific Moisture Spray is the perfect addition - you can spritz it on top of your makeup or a face mask, or even your lotion for an added kick of moisture!

That's what I am loving/using now! Have a fabulous Wednesday!

Taste: Spaghetti Squash Marinara

So I have shied away from making spaghetti squash in the past due to two unfortunate incidents where I attempted to cut them in half and ended up getting so frustrated I needed a glass of wine.  Have you ever tried cutting one of those suckers? They DO NOT BUDGE.  Enter my husband.  I don't know what he did, aka I just left the room, but he cut it in half length wise for me and the rest was easy!

{  I n g r e d i e n t s  }
makes four servings
1 spaghetti squash, halved length wise
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
2 cups sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup diced yellow onion
2 tablespoons olive oil
Sliced parmesan to taste
Salt and pepper
1.5 cups marinara sauce - I prefer Vesper Brothers!

{  D i r e c t i o n s  }
  • Preheat oven to 350.  Cut spaghetti squash in haf length wise.  Remove seeds and strings inside.
  • Place squash insides up in a baking dish with water on the sides, about half an inch high.  Bake for 40 minutes or until tender, remove from oven and let cool a bit.
  • Heat olive oil in a preheated skillet.  Add mushrooms and onions.  Cook over medium to low heat until onions are translucent and mushrooms have softened, about seven to ten minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat red sauce on low.  Add in mushrooms and onions and tomatoes.
  • Using a fork, scrape along the insides of squash, starting from the center.  It should form stringy, spaghetti-like pieces that you can remove and transfer to a plate.
  • Top with sauce, salt and pepper to taste.  Finish with shaved parmesan.
  • Eat and enjoy!

p.s. There are only 42 calories in a cup of this!  That is a fifth of what pasta is!

Life: Weekend Escape

Happy Monday friends!  I hope everyone had a great weekend! We spent ours at the shore, enjoying the perfect fall weather and the empty boardwalk and restaurants.  There is something so peaceful about a hot weather hot spot during the calmer, cooler months.  The lack of long lines, sweaty impatience, and unwanted sunburns make everything so different and more enjoyable.  It's so nice to slow down and spend some delicious, peaceful moments without the hubbub of the peak season.

We ended our trip on our drive home with skydivers floating over head and landing next to the Parkway.  Random thing to see but definitely different!  Have a fabulous week!
