Organization: The Kitchen Part Two

I'm back with part two of my month of kitchen organization!  First, here are close ups of the chalkboard labels and the bin I use for my dry mixes.

I use a chalkboard pen on these so the writing doesn't smudge as easily.  Found these at Staples!

I got a bunch of these stacking bins at the Container Store.  I am using this on its own here.  I still need to do something with that label though because it is pretty drab.

Now on to the rest...

I love these shelves.  They helped us stack our plates better and gave us room in this awkwardasanything corner cabinet.

Not a huge change in this drawer but I am always playing around to try to get more space.

This under the sink cabinet was probably our biggest offender.  I emptied it and got rid of a lot of never used cleaners, pet supplies, etc.

This over the door hook has our drying cloth inside so it isn't hanging out for everyone to see (I hate that!) and little fingers don't run off with all day long (I'm talking to you Greyson!)

One of these bins (from Target) holds our cleaning supplies for downstairs (I have an upstairs set too but that's a story for another day.)  I can slide it out in the space left and carry it with me very easily.  It also has extra Swifffer pads in it and gloves for easy access.

The second bin holds our kitchen cleaning essentials: natural cleaner spray and Dapple, as well as Barkeeper's Friend and a dish rag.  Next to that is our drying rack and dishwasher pods.  I love that the pods come in such a nice litte container!

This cabinet is annoying.  It is long and stores most of our kitchen electronics.  There really is no way to make this pretty so I just got rid of what we don't use and arranged things so they weren't piled on top of each other.

And there you have it! Next month I am switching to Avery's bedroom which has become all sorts of scary!  I can't wait to share it with you!

Workout Wednesday

Happy Hump Day!  I am SORE today!  This weekend I worked out with my awesome, in amazing shape friend Kate.  You can follow her love lessons and fitness adventures, and trust me you want to because you will laugh, learn and be inspired.  I wish for the day she opens her own gym/becomes a personal trainer because you will all be sprinting to workout with her.  She is patient, understanding, and not high pressure.  And one not super long workout with her kicked my butt and left me with enough knowledge to do a lot on my own.  I have worked with trainers before and never come away with so much.  A few thing I have done this week...

I have started trying to be better at wearing my heart rate monitor.  It tells you how many calories you burn based on a monitor attached to a chest strap.  I find it a lot more trust worthy and eye opening than anything else.

Writing it down! Kate did this for me and it is a new challenge! I am so old school and love writing things down.  I just have to actually do this at the gym.  There is the REAL challenge!

I'm now obsessed with this protein powder thanks to my handy friend Kate.  It tastes like actual cookies and cream and is only 130 calories.  New favorite snack!

Finally, she recommended this book to me.  I am flying through it.  It's a lot of science, but it all makes sense.

Maybe I can quit my cardio junkie status?  Not sure, but I am definitely giving it a try!

Recipe: My Favorite Protein Smoothie & Hot Cereal

It's Tuesday and that means three more days until I am in sunny Florida!  I'm hitting you with two quick and easy healthy recipes today.  While I continue to work off this baby weight (ughhhh) I make a protein smoothie my breakfast a lot of mornings and I will definitely be drinking a lot of them this week!  My personal favorite is peanut butter and banana and this is my go-to recipe for a lower calorie, high-protein packed meal or post-workout fuel!

Ingredients
Almond Milk (I usually use unsweetened vanilla because it is only 40 calories a cup.  This week we had gotten sweetened for Avery.)
Protein (I was in a pinch and grabbed this from Target.  It was the lowest calorie one they had.)\
Banana
PB2 (35 calories a tbsp!)

Directions
- Fill your blender with one cup of almond milk
- Break your banana in half and add
- Add one scoop of protein powder
- Add one tbsp of PB2
- Blend until smooth

If you have not tried PB2, you must go get some! You can mix it with water into a peanut butter that is specific to your thickness and so low in calories and fat is ridic!

Ingredients
Organic multigrain cereal
Cream (I use soy)
Berries
Stevia or Truvia

Directions
- Cook oats according to instructions
- Remove from heat, stir in a splash of cream, pack of sweetener and top with berries
- Eat and enjoy!

These are two of my breakfast go-to's.  They are healthy, under 400 calories and keep me full for hours! Plus, they're EASY and FAST - two major musts for this mama!

Oscar Weekend

Happy Monday lovelies! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  We had a great one!  As usual, it involved food.  Our lives seriously revolve around food.  We have been having a lot of make our own pizza nights at home and it is so fun.  The kiddos love it too!  And donuts.  Always donuts.

Greyson has been teething like crazy.  He got two molars this week and it looks like six more teeth are trying to come through.  He has been gnawing on bagels to help.  Random, but he loves it.  Maggie has decided I'm not really her favorite anymore and is trying to make nice with Avery.  It only took four years.

We went to one of Avery's besties' birthday party on Sunday and it was so much fun!  Snow White came and I seriously think that may have been the peak of her little life.  She told Josh she met the REAL Snow White.

Did you all watch the Oscars last night?  I was so disappointed with the fashion.  It was the worst of all the award shows so far.  I did think Seth MacFarlane was pretty good.  His opening was hilarious and awesome.  Minus William Shatner.  Gah, he really gets on my nerves!  Here are my top picks from the red carpet:

And, as usual, my favorite was Kerry Washington.
Thank goodness for KW and her killer red carpet picks this year!

Have a great weekend peeps!

Fashion Friday

Finally it is Friday!  We have had such an off week since Avery had a school break.  That and the nonstop gusting freezing cold winds of misery outside.  I need warm weather STAT.  On that note,  Lilly Pulitzer has gotten some great new goodies in for Spring and Summer.  I'm such a Lilly junkie still and stalk their website for new arrivals.  Here are some of my favorites:

And to wrap the week up, two quick outfits!
Target skinnies (I'm so obsessed), Velvet top, Edelman shoes, Kate Spade bracelet

Target skinnies (told you!), AG shirt, JCrew necklace.

Two outfit pictures because that is the amount of outfits I put on that were non-workout clothes this week.  Come on warm weather, do it for my wardrobe!

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Organization: The Kitchen Inside Part One

I am so excited to basically be done with out kitchen organization.  However, and this is a BIG however, no matter how organized it may be, kitchens are hard to make look neat.  There is just so much odd sized, mismatched, electric cord wielding thingamajigs to fit in.  So please excuse all that because I have yet to figure out how to make it all but disappear.  A little background... I went through the entire kitchen, cabinet by cabinet, drawer by drawer and emptied them in their entirety.  I then got rid of everything I knew we absolutely didn't need or hadn't used in the last year.  After that I played around with all of my organizing goodies and tried to make the best use of space I could.  Here is the first part of what I have been working on:

Before

After
I found these drawer organizers at Home Goods.  They're the same brand that I have purchased at the Container Store before but half the price!

Invest in a lid rack.  It's a game changer.

The carb cabinet.  This middle shelf is where all of carbs are kept basically.
I used drawer organizers to hold our vitamins and daily meds in.  I keep them in the kitchen where they are in easy reach.
This is for all of our baking.  I used my old spice jars to hold candy, candles and extra sprinkles.  I can pull this out easily when I want to bake without having to root through an entire cabinet.

I found these chalkboard labels at Staples.  They are the Martha Stewart line and are awesome! I kind of accumulate the containers they are on as I go so please excuse all the mismatchedness.  The little guy on the far right has all of the dry sauces/flavor packs in it.
I have all the miscellaneous spices on a three tier spice rack so I can see everything and dont end up double buying.
My love of Lazy Susans continues.

Sippy cups and kids plates are brutal.  There is no good way to get around all this nonsense but I do the best I can.

This we totally removed and turned into a pull out trash can.  I LOVE it!  We also don't have a trash can standing out in our kitchen any longer.  Happy dance!

So there you have it so far! When it comes to the kitchen pretty is fun but functionality and simplicity always win out with me!
