Who doesn't love a margarita? Ok, probably quite a few people, but let's move on and pretend everyone does fa la la la. Margaritas are one of my absolute favorite cocktails and what I will always drink on vacation. They're just so FUN!
I love a flavored margarita, but all of the packaged mixers are so full of sugar and other nonsense that I have resigned to always make my own. And you know what? They taste about a million times better and like the real deal ones you sip on a beach in Mexico.
I change it up with whatever fruits or juices we have on hand. For this one, I had a ton of watermelon and thought it would do. It definitely did! Mango is going to be my next fruit to try, because, also, YUM!
1 to 1.5 shots clear tequila (or vodka)*
3 shot glasses worth of watermelon juice*
Juice of half a lime (save lime to rim glass with)
Splash of elderflower liquor
Salt for glasses (optional)
-Cut lime in half Run around edge of glass to moisten then dip glass in salt.
- Add tequila, elderflower liquor, lime juice and watermelon juice in a shaker with ice and shake it!
-Pour mixture into your glass. Add seltzer to about 3/4 full. It may fizz up so make sure to keep an eye on it! Add agave nectar in, to taste. I like mine sweeter so I add a lot more than Josh.
*When I made this I had run out of tequila (HORROR) but tried it with vodka and found that it really gave the same style drink with a slightly different taste. If you're not a tequila drinker, no reason to force it!
*I always make my own in either our juicer or Vitamix depending on how lazy/motivated I feel. I always include the pulp too for extra nutrients.
