The Denim Skirt

The denim skirt.  Is it a do or a don't?  A blast from the past or a consistent classic?  I have been on the fence about one of my beloved former closet staples.  In college and after, I rocked the Seven mini denim skirt like it was nobody's business.  I always paired it with a classic tee shirt and some cute sneakers, and was out the door for class, work, a night out.  And then, like Jessica Simpson's cowgirl boots, the denim skirt was out.  I mourned the loss and moved on to new lovers like the skinny jean and the bright denim pant.

One day, a few months ago, I was cleaning out a box from my old bedroom at my parents' house when I rediscovered one of my beloveds from 2007.  My face probably looked like a giant heart eyes emoji as I put it on and realized IT STILL FIT.  And I LIKED IT.  So I started wearing it again with zero shame.

Skirt: 7 For All Mankind, old. Similar here // Tee Shirt, Target //  Sunglasses, Amazon, in black here // Shoes, Converse Shoreline

I linked a bunch of cute denim skirts I found below -

I'm so glad this old babe and I re-found each other.  What's old is new again, and maybe I am just old and retro (does that happen when you turn 30?)

Have a fabulous day! -xo

Beauty: The Konjac Sponge

Have you guys heard of the Konjac sponge? I hadn't until I received one in my FabFitFun box.  I was intrigued, so I did a little research and started using it.  I don't travel with my Clarisonic so it made for a great alternative to pack with all of the travel I have been doing lately.  It's small, packs and travels easily and well, and does an amazing job.

So what does this little sponge do?  It exfoliates, but in the most gentle way and therefore gives you radiant skin (who can say no to that?)  Because the sponge is so gentle you can use it on the most sensitive skin.  I have super sensitive skin, so this is perfect for me.  The sponge is also a great makeup remover.  I haven't used it with makeup on yet, but from everything I have read, the sponge plus a little soap will get your makeup off.  The sponge can be used with just water, or you can add cleanser.  I have done both, and it works great both ways.  Unfortunately, because they're so natural, they have a pretty short shelf life, which is about one month.  However, I am really happy with mine and will definitely be repurchasing!  Watch out Clarisonic, you have some competition!

The Konjac I have been using is the Hello! brand in pure white.  I can't find it online anywhere except eBay, because it is a newer brand here and I think it was exclusive to the box.  I rounded up a bunch of great ones I did find and read reviews on:

Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge
Boscia Konjac Sponge with Charcoal
Sephora Konjac Sponge Duo
Daily Concepts Konjac Sponge
Dew Puff Konjac Sponge
Konjac Sponge Works
One Love Organics
Konjac Sponge Co. Daily White

Who has tried the Konjac sponge and what did you think?  Leave it in the comments below!  -xo

WIAW

It's been a minute since I have talked about diet around here, and for accountability's sake (and my waistline) I figured I better get on it!  Let me preface this with, this run down is from a couple of days ago, at my parents' house.  I'm not there anymore, and with all of the traveling I have been pretty horrendous with my eating habits. I have been really loose with the sweets and going too long between meals, and ending up shoveling whatever I can into my face.  I'm trying really hard to get back on track, not just for vanity's sake, but because I feel pretty damn crappy when I eat like crap.  You are what you eat, and the older I get, the more I feel that!

7:30 am - Coffee with Stevia (I prefer the liquid) and organic creamer

I worked out after this for 45 minutes, hitting the treadmill and the jump rope (ass kicker!)

9:30 am - My breakfast was a light and fit greek yogurt, which isn't the healthiest, but it tastes so good and paired with a cappucino protein shake gave me a filling serving of protein to keep me full until lunch time.

1:45 pm - That breakfast kept me full for SO long!  I had some veggie sushi, seaweed salad and a spicy tuna roll that I shared with my parents.

2:00 pm - Let's be honest, a third of that sushi just wasn't going to cut it, so I grabbed a couple of spoonfuls of organic peanut butter (healthy fats) to fill me up.

3:30ish and 4:00 pm - And then I get snacky.  And apparently tired.  I grabbed a cold brew with some soy for protein, a chunk of asiago cheese and a green apple.  This was a definitely satisfying snack and one I need to revisit more often.  The fiber and protein from the apple and cheese keep me full much longer than a handful of carbs.

8:00 pm - Dinner was late tonight, but worth the wait. I made roasted salmon with a tiny bit of organic butter and a summer corn relish.  I served it over homemade organic mashed potatoes and a side of broccoli with asiago.  I like my dinners big (man appetite right here) and I try to fill them with complex carbs, veggies and protein.  If I don't try to get that balance right I tend to get too snacky after.  This kept me nice and full!

I have been eating way too many desserts, candies, and gluten for no reason other than I can't get to anything else.  There are always excuses, but I need to try to eat more like this on a daily basis to keep my energy levels up, sleep better, and just feel not so much like a beached whale (bad carbs = all the bloat.)

On that note, I will say that it is Summer, travel is rough, and we are allowed to live a little.  So instead of beating myself up about my eating habits, I am going to enjoy a few bites of something bad every now and then, and keep trying to eat my best.

I have also been switching up my work outs big time lately.  I'm working on a post on that for next week, but as with anything, change is good!

I can't find the link up, but I figured I would put this out there anyway for anyone as nosy as I am! Have a fabulous day babes! -xo

Shopping: Lust List

So I guess the theme of this week's shopping list is sneakers?  I want to be that person who can rock sneakers, skinny jeans and a cute little top every day.  That's my new Fall mission #goals.  Who is with me?  I wore sneakers with skirts and dresses in college, so why can't I bring them back?  Although, I think the other new staple in my life is going to be the open toed mule.  These beauties have got me making all of the heart eyes. Who has them and can tell me the comfort level before I finally pull the trigger on them?  And, can I wear them in the Winter and not be seen as a true crazy person?  #opentoesallyear #hashtagsinblogposts

I ordered this bracelet but Nordstrom sent me the wrong color, so I was all temper tantrumy having to haul it to the store to return it.  Real world problems (clearly NOT!)  I spotted this cutie while I was there and fell in love, because all of the off the shoulder pieces!  They didn't have any in my size, but I am still thinking of making her mine!  Finally, I am swooning over this top.  I'm just trying to rationalize if it is worth spending the full price on.  However, I literally think about this top all of the time.  I will regret it if I don't get it, right?  Help a girl out ladies!

Have a fabulous day! -xo-

Life Lately

This is how I feel about everything going on lately...

This dog kills me lately and she is FINALLY going to get a good grooming in a few days.  I have had the hardest time finding a good place to get her groomed.  She had a couple very traumatic experiences when we lived in LA so she is a very nervous girl about it, and most places won't deal with a dog like that.  That, plus every place I try has a months long waiting list.  It's easier for me to get into a salon!

Besides dog beauty issues, we have been traveling like maniacs.  Seriously, the kids and I are living out of suitcases and have been home for a handful of days in the last couple of months.  We have beeb able to spend a lot of time at the beach, which is the best way to spend Summer!

After years of being terrified of the ocean and loathing sand (Avery still feels that anger towards sand on the beach) the kids FINALLY decided they like the beach!  Watching them play in the waves is one of my absolute favorite things!

I love watching them play almost as much as I love discovering backpack chairs for kids!  Hauling chairs for them down to the beach is no joke, but when I saw they made these I snapped up two in pink and blue.  Mamas, these are fanfreakingtastic and have saved my back in the best way!

In other good things, a friend of mine whipped up these delicious spritzers that I can't stop thinking about.  They're all I want to make this Summer and you can basically use whatever you have on hand in your fridge!  Where are all my other spritzer lovers at?

I'm also starting to get pretty decent at giving Avery hair do's.  Granted, she complains the entire time I am doing it that it hurts and I am not doing it fast enough, but I am pretty happy with how they turn out.  I can barely get my own hair into a decent looking ponytail these days so I will be living vicariously through her while my hair goes uncombed.

Finally, can we discuss my childrens' obsession with selfies?  The amount of selfies are on camera I open are insane.  They snap pictures all day long.  They could give Kim K. a run for her money!

We are enjoying a couple of days in one place before we start packing up to travel again at the end of this week, and then the end of the weekend.  School starts next week so we have a lot to get ready for and I am feeling mildly unprepared.  A couple of spritzers should help with that!

Don't forget to mark your calendars for September 2nd and our next Wino Wednesday link up.  We hope you'll join us!

Have a fabulous day babes! -xo

Reading List + Links

A round up of all the good things this week...

17 Habits of Highly Effective People Who Take Really Amazing Vacations
Sometimes we need the basics laid out for us.  I'm guilty of always working on vacation, but this is something so good for us to read and put into action.  I need to remember this on my next trip!

Creating a School Memory Bank
For all of the moms who want to make their child's school year memories a little more organized.  Granted, this is filed under my "want to" category, not necessarily the "it is going to happen" one.

Samantha Penner's Gorgeous Houston Apartment
If you haven't read The Peak of Tres Chic, please do! It's one of my favorite reads.  Samantha's stunning apartment in Houston is featured in this article, and seriously, it is beyond drool worthy.

Navy and Orange Airplane Bedroom
I love Caroline's blog and I absolutely adore her little boy's bedroom she created for him.  A perfect combination or masculine and sweet that works for years to come!

Devon Baer
I scooped up a couple of more pieces from Devon Baer at her most recent sale.  Have you checked her clothes out?  They're preppy and swoon worthy!  She's from my hometown and has that preppy, Main Line chic aspect which I adore!  These are quality, lasting splurge-worthy pieces!

+Organizing Your Gmail
I loved Annie's post on organizing your gmail.  It applies to other email servers too and it's a nice reminder to clean out the junk and how to easily organize yourself!  Can you guess what I will be focusing my OCD on this weekend?

The PSL Will Have Pumpkin!
After all of last year's backlash following the discovery that the PSL doesn't actually have any pumpkin in, Starbucks has gone ahead and finally made actual real life pumpkin an ingredient!  My PSL-loving heart is basically skipping beats left and right and counting down the days until my first sip!

Have a fabulous weekend! -xo

Shop: Forever 21 Dresses

It's no secret that I have a slight love affair with Forever 21 dresses.  I even posted about them earlier this week.   I snagged the dress below last month and now it is totally sold out unfortunately.  Amanda posted the same dress last year and the same thing happened.  If you see it appear online, grab it!  It's so great for the price and the quality is surprisingly great.

But, seriously, when you don't want to blow your budget, your kids like to thrash your clothes on purpose accidentally, or you don't want to spend a ton on trends, this is the way to go.  I don't wear dresses as often as I would like, so I don't like to spend a ton on them.

Since this dress is no longer available, I rounded up some fabulous other dresses from F21 that I found while browsing.  They have a lot of great options right now to ride out Summer and for Fall, heavy on the black and white.  #nocolornoproblem

Taste: Polenta with Ratatouille

Have you guys tried Blue Apron yet?  I just got my first delivery last week and I was pretty pleased.  I'm not the type of person who follows a recipe to a t, so I changed what they gave me and worked with what I had.  I like having all of the ingredients hand delivered to me made everything so much easier.

I wasn't a big fan of polenta until I made this.  I doubled the cheese in the recipe and added some other flavors to make it more palatable (to me, ha!)

Ingredients
1 cup polenta
4 tablespoons olive oil
5 gloves garlic
4 cups water
2 heirloom eggplants (or one regular)
2 beefstake tomato
1 red bell pepper
1 zucchini
1 red onion
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup grated parmesan
salt and pepper

Directions
(serves 4)
+ Wash produce.  Peel and dice eggplant and zucchini.  Mince garlic.  Dice onion, tomato and pepper.  Heat a large saucepan over medium with two tablespoons olive oil.  Add eggplant and zucchini and cook, turning occasionally for about 8 minutes.  Remove from heat to a large bowl.

+  While cooking eggplant and zucchini, bring a pot with four cups of water and salt to a boil.  When it is boiling, gradually add the polenta, whisking as you do to avoid clumping.  Reduce to a simmer and cook 10 minutes.

+  Meanwhile, add remaining oil to pan and add garlic, red pepper and onion, cooking until fragrant, 3-4 minutes.  Add the tomato and cook, stirring, until mixture thickens, about three minutes.  Return eggplant and zucchini to the pan, season with salt and pepper and cook 8-10 minutes.

+ Once polenta has cooked, stir in butter and parmesan. Mix well until blended.  Add salt and pepper to taste.  Serve on plates, and top with vegetable mixture.

Have you tried Blue Apron?  What are your thoughts?  I'm excited to try more recipes when traveling has settled down and we are home for a bit.  This is such a perfect plan for a busy life!

Enjoy babes! xo-

The Little Black Swing Dress

Hi.  My name is Lindsay and I am addicted to swing dresses.  Trust me, once you dip your toes into the swing dress waters, you won't want to go back.   Anything this light, swingy and fun to wear is basically addicting.  You just want to swoosh your way around town, and I basically try to do that as evidenced below...

Dress, Forever 21 under $30!, similar also here and here || Sunglasses, Amazon || Shoes, Tory Burch Thora sandal || Bag, Clare V. || Bracelet, Hermes

Can we also please discuss the fact that my phone broke and I don't have an upgrade so I had to revert to my 2006 iPhone 4 that I had to take back from my children (who play with it as a toy.)  All I need is some Snake 2 and I am truly vintage.  I apologize for my lack of Instas and Snaps, but those bad boys just aren't compatible with my dinosaur phone right now.  Talk about a tech diet!

Go forth and buy all the swing dresses my lovelies and I will try my best to respond to emails on the world's slowest phone ;)  xoxo-
