Currently Obsessed: Home Edition

Things that would look killer on a bart cart:  this, like 1000%.  Also, this set.  This is a pair that is just meant to be, basically like this. I'm trying to incorporate more modern, grown-up (what the what?!) art into our home, and this is definitely a good starting point for me and my formerly Shabby Chic loving self. Palm fronds are all the rage, so why not incorporate them with a chic, minimalist print?  I also want to to get rid of our wooden headboard in our guest room (again, old style) and replace it with something more like this.  The price is right and it will look much softer and modern at the same time.

Ever since my friend sent me this chest I haven't been able to get it out of my mind.  I found a different piece for behind my sectional, but I love this one so much that I am seriously trying to brainstorm any way possible to incorporate it into our home, and definitely not for its traditional use!

I literally cannot get enough pineapples in our home/my life lately.  I'm pretty sure this shopping list is more than enough evidence of that.  That is another reason why these would just make sense for me right now.  How classic and clean are they?  They would match so many styles from traditional to coastal, and I could find about a dozen other ways to justify purchasing these, so I'll just stop now.

I posted leopard pillows I have been coveting last month, and then found these for almost half the price!  Speaking of animal print, I have been coveting one (or more) of these trays for years.  Why in the world haven't I pulled the trigger yet?!  Someone please convince me these are ok and necessary to buy.  I also know that someone won't be my husband.

To wrap it all up, I heart pineapples and animal prints and anything gold and/or beachy.  Is it the Winter speaking or do I just want a traditional, welcoming home?

Style: Vacation Packing

I'm so excited to be getting ready to jet off for a fun few days in the sun with some of my best girlfriends!  When it's all sweaters and fleece-lined everything all the time, there is nothing more fun than picking out your favorite dresses, sandals and sunshine friendly gear to pack!  Since we are only going for a few days, I want to do my best to pack as lightly as I can, but I want to get the most out of some of my favorites who may not be seeing the sun for a few months after this trip!  

I love packing lightweight dresses that can fold or roll up easily to take up as little space as possible.  Even if the hotel room doesn't have a great iron, I hang them in the bathroom while I shower and the steam takes all of the wrinkles right out.  I will typically wear a dress to dinner one night and then again as a coverup another day to get more use and save space.

When I am packing jewelry I try to stick to gold or silver and not both. I try to bring only a handful of pieces that will worth with as many looks as possible.  
I stick to the same with shoes and bags and go with either a brown or black base and try to keep everything matching.  Great neutral or gold sandals will match pretty much anything and take you from the pool to dinner.  

A large tote that works as a carry-on makes a great beach bag when it's emptied - just remember to shake the sand out before you pack it!  No joke, I totally forgot to do this in Florida a couple of years ago while I was packing in a rush and came home to sand everywhere!

Amanda's post on how to pack in a carry-on is basically super smart and helpful, plus I ordered the cases she recommended and already love them.  I'm just struggling with my liquids, because how can I possibly survive without every single thing I need at once?!

Life: Friday Faves

+ After this week's weather, I was basically peeing my pants reading about snowstorms in the 70's versus today.  This could have been the 80's or early 90's too and it's so spot on, especially with today!

This bag is the bag of the Spring/Summer, totally calling it.  Every blogger has been all over it for such good reason. It's neutral and colorful all in one and I have been dreaming of it since it came out.  I feel like I need to snag it now, because this is definitely going to sell out.

+ This is Avery's first year selling Girl Scout Cookies... we actually aren't participating because certain things really stress her out and it just isn't worth it for us to put the pressure on her.  However, this doesn't mean that a box or two may not make its way into our own home.  There is nothing more delicious than  a yummy red paired with some Thin Mints, am I right?  Looking for more?  Here is a an awesome Girl Scout Cookie Wine Pairing list.

This little guy has been giving me a run for my money lately.  He woke as sassy as could be on his fourth birthday and hasn't stopped since.  I take back everything bad I said about three, because four is legit.

Avery has been a little love bug lately, though.  Her attitude is starting to calm down (fingers crossed) and she has been such a mama's girl lately.  I can never say no to one on one time with her or snuggles.  Am I the only one who misses their kids the second they go to school?

I'm on such a kick with layered necklaces.  Whenever I wear just one I feel like I'm naked.  Not really, but I need MORE! I have always been pretty subtle about my jewelry, but I'm in a total bring it all on mood lately and I'm just going to roll with it.  Don't laugh if you see me strutting around rocking five necklaces, it's my thing!

I have gotten back into my Barre groove lately, and have been getting two or three classes in a week.  It's such an amazing workout and I can definitely feel my body changing even after a couple of weeks.  I'm all about that barre... and bar ;)

We went to Atlantic City for a friend's surprise birthday party, which was SO fun and I finally snagged this dress.  I love it BUT it doesn't unwrinkle easily (clearly!) and I need to get it altered so that the closure isn't as high.  I mean, I had to wear it all night for the wrinkles to disappear and my go-to shower steam trick didn't work at all.

Josh always asks me why I don't post more pictures of him on the blog.... and this would be why.  Who needs to make a face in every picture?!

The kids had a great Valentine's and woke up to goodies and pancakes, a total win-win in my book!  They had a couple days off this week and we literally just slothed around the house and worked on tons of projects and played together.  I am probably the only crazy mom who prefers days off to school days.

One of my best friends is coming to visit today and my mom is spending the weekend with us, so I am off to clean, squeeze in a couple of workouts and relax!  Have a great weekend!

Beauty: Favorite Winter Lip Colors

Today let's talk about something I feel very strongly about (ha! passion!) lip colors.  I am a true lip gloss/stick/color hoarder and have no less than four in my bag at a time.  I mean, a girl has to have options, right?  I definitely have very different color choices for different seasons.  In the Summer I stick to light neutrals so I can show off my tan, and in the Winter I wear a lot more brights to make everything brighter and cheerier.  

Here is what is in my current Winter rotation right now...

Honest Beauty Lip Crayon in Mulberry Kiss - This is an amazing wine colored lip crayon that gives serious color.  It's intense and on the matte side, but goes perfectly with a really subtle eye and face.  The color stays put without being drying at all.

Bobbi Brown Rich Color Gloss in Tutu 1 - (not available, but Pink Buff literally looks exactly the same.) I love Bobbi Brown glosses because they're not super sticky, they give great color, moisture and stay on for a long time.  I have been buying her glosses for over ten years and will always continue to do so because they are AWESOME!

Trish McEvoy Lip Color in Precious Pink - I am a huge Trish McEvoy fan (even if she doesn't rank well on the chemical usage scale, oops!) and her lip colors are definitely one of the reasons why.  They all give a sheer wash of color, while moisturizing and have a delicious minty flavor to them.  This shade gives the most perfect pinky pink color that can be built up.

Trish McEvoy Lip Color in Perfection - Same reasons as above except that this really is perfection, as in the most perfect nude lipstick ever.  I think it's such a perfectly light and flattering shade that will match almost any skin tone.  I wear this almost daily and keep a tube in my bag at all times.

YSL Vernis a Levres Glossy Stain in 203 -  This is a mouthful to say, but it's a great gloss for a reason.  It gives amazingly pigmented color for a gloss, is uber lightweight and stays put.  It almost seems to seal your lips so that the color stays on for hours.  I recommend trying the colors on in store because they can look very different on than what they do in the bottle!

NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue - This is THE best bang for your buck lip color IMHO.  It's a fun, girly pink that is moisturizing (do we see an avoid dry lips theme here?) and just doesn't appear cheap at all.  A lot of budget brand colors can seem funky on, but this looks like a really beautiful shade of pink with purple undertones.  It's my go-to girly color and I love the $5 price point!

Any other lip product hoarders out there?  If so, I could totally do a post just on chapsticks and lip moisturizers.  Not even joking.  #lipproblems
